Panel Members

Sam Romano is President of the United Nations Association of Dane County.  He will address the consequences, globally and domestically, of President Trump’s efforts to decrease US funding for the United Nations.  He has been a member of the UNA since 1988. For the past 8 years, he has led a bi-weekly discussion and advocacy group called UN in the News.  After 52 years, Sam recently retired as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.

Peg Schrader is the newly elected Board President of the League of Women Voters of Milwaukee County.  She will address the urgency of defending Democracy which is celebrated on September 15th around the world as the International Day of Democracy.  She joined LWVMC in 2019 and has served on its board of directors as Vice-President of Voter Services, which coordinates voter registration and education programs.  Her career included management positions with several non-profit organizations and later served as Business Development Manager for an international transportation company.

Members of the Daughters of Tradition will share their recent experiences at the United Nations and their engagement with indigenous advocacy groups. The Daughters of Tradition is a program of the Healing Intergenerational Roots (HIR) Wellness Institute in Milwaukee that supports indigenous girls and young women through cultural knowledge, healing, and leadership development.  At the United Nations, the Daughters of Tradition advocated for the voices of indigenous young people to be heard.  July 14th, 2025 was declared by the Mayor of Milwaukee as “Daughters of Tradition Day” in recognition of their work.
