Information about the 2026 UNSIL World Fair
You are invited to interact and learn with MPS 4th – 8th-grade students as they present on nearly 1,500 research projects about the member countries, organs, cultures, and goals of the United Nations. Our young people are excited to share their work with you!
UNSIL helps Milwaukee’s young people learn about the world and all it has to offer, starting with the shared responsibilities, opportunities, and leadership that the United Nations offers. The United Nations Schools of International Learning (UNSIL) program has been implemented in grades 4 through 8 at MPS’ most diverse schools since 2016. In the program, students learn about the United Nations and its member countries throughout the world. They think critically about real-world problems, research solutions, and work together to develop a global perspective.
Through this experience, students master critical academic skills such as research, writing, and presenting with a focus on world affairs and current events. Students gain skills in debate, negotiation, and conflict resolution, and they develop empathy and tolerance – all competencies that will serve them well in college, career, and life.
The United Nations Schools of International Learning (UNSIL) opens doors for thousands of Milwaukee Public Schools’ future leaders, exploring international cooperation, global responsibility, and the importance of becoming engaged citizens of the world. Inspired by the work of the United Nations, the program encourages students to think beyond borders and understand their role in an interdependent world.
Now in its 10th year, UNSIL has successfully engaged annual cohorts of MPS students in grades 4 through 8. The program brings together immersion and traditional classroom students to create a unique collaborative learning environment.
The experience culminates in the annual UNSIL World Fair — a vibrant celebration of student learning and global cultures. Students then present their projects to peers, dignitaries, and community leaders. After the presentations, students enjoy lunch and cultural performances representing countries around the world.
Please join us in celebrating the creativity and leadership of MPS students as they continue their lifelong journey as world citizens!
The UNSIL program at MPS is presented in partnership with the Annette J. Roberts & Joan R. Robertson Fund for World Peace, World Law, and Peace Education at the Greater Milwaukee Foundation.
